To replace a missing tooth or teeth, a bridge can be used instead of a denture. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants on both sides of the empty space. These teeth are called abutments. They serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. Bridges can be made of different materials, your dentist will recommend according to the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and also cost .Unlike a partial denture, you can't remove a bridge to clean it, but you have to keep the area around and under the bridge clean .

Caring for Your Dentures
To properly maintain your dentures, wash them daily using a soft bristle dental brush and denture cleaner, hand soap, or mild liquid dish soap and cold or warm water. Soak your dentures in water or denture cleaner when they are not in your mouth to prevent them from drying out.
Remove your dentures at night, as wearing them can cause tissue irritation, fungal infection, and increased bone loss. If your dentures become loose or painful, it is time to see your dentist to evaluate if they need an adjustment, a reline or replacement
With all the modern denture technology we cannot produce a denture that will fit perfectly for the rest of your life . First time denture wearers as well as seasoned denture wearers will find themselves suffering sore gums from time to time for various reasons. Denture wearers should always cut hard foods into small pieces before chewing. It puts way too much pressure on those gum ridges, and this will surely make them tender. With age shrinking gums and bones can ruin the once perfect fit of your dentures. Once the gum begins to change shape, the once perfect original fit is lost and the dentures are now free to move and rub against the gums, causing sore spots. one cause for some of this shrinkage is a process called resorption. When the bone ridges in the jaw no longer have the roots of the natural teeth to provide pressure stimulus, bone production begins to decrease, eventually ceasing completely. Gum disease also causes shrinkage of the dental ridge. Dentures can be adjusted periodically to help restore a better fit, but eventually the ridge is too small to support a denture.
With good fit pain should not be an issue but when the fitting gets loose and denture begin to rub against the gums ,sourness and swelling starts. Why do dentures lose their fit? Each individual is different, and the shape of the dental ridges are always changing especially with age. Over time, the boney ridges begin to deteriorate and the denture becomes loose and will not fit on the changed gums and tenderness and swelling starts . Tender swollen gums, pressure sores, and tired aching jaws, when this happens visit your dentist ,may be its time to adjust ,reline or replace dentures.
Your dentures may take some time to get used to. Never force denture or use biting down to place denture. With good hygiene habits it should last longer. The flesh colored base of the dentures is placed over your gums. Some people say that it feels bulky or that they don't have enough room for their tongue. Other times the dentures might feel loose. These feelings will affect the way you eat and talk for a little while. Over time, your mouth becomes trained to eat and speak with your dentures and they begin to feel more and more like your natural teeth. They may never feel perfectly comfortable, but it is much better than the alternative of not having teeth.
Even though dentures are not real teeth, you should care for them like they are. You should brush them to remove plaque and food particles before removing your dentures. After they have been removed you should place them directly into room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Never use hot water because it could warp the dentures. Your dentures are delicate, so make sure you are careful when handling them so you don't drop them. Also, never try to adjust your dentures yourself. You could ruin them, so you should always seek assistance from your dentist if they feel uncomfortable or loose.
